Does this happen to you? You search for books online or you buy them from your local library and you are very excited to read them because they have a Nobel Prize or they’re very known and everybody says that those are some great books.

It happened to me too many times to buy some books over someone’s opinion, other than my own and not liking the book.

I try to read the book, I really do, and I feel that time stops and I am still on page 15 and I can’t understand anything because, for me, that book is not at all interesting.

So I was thinking, I am sorry to waste a bought book, but I am not wasting my time, THAT I can receive back, so no, I will not finish anymore a book that I don’t like.

I am not saying that the book is bad, for something has received a prize, but it doesn’t fulfill me, for others that book maybe is the best book that they have read in a while and I understand that.

I have some books that I truly loved and I talked about them with a friend that also reads for pleasure and she didn’t like some of them, she simply likes other genres, other characters.

I think that not every book suits everybody, even if it’s an excellent book.

My husband says that why I choose books sometimes over someone’s opinion?! Because everybody thinks different and if they say it’s a good book, for me maybe, it’s not.

The reviews are subjective, they talk from their experience of reading that book.

For example, I read Les Miserables (1500 pages), I liked it, but there were parts that I wanted to let it go, I was so tired of reading it because it would go on and on with not so interesting stories and then it would talk again about the characters in the book, and somehow, I finished the book.

Another example I can get you is about The count of Monte Cristo, this also has been a long book, but I was never bored, I liked it so much and it was so full of action that I read it in no time, I loved the book very much.

I have some books I haven’t finished and I really don’t know if I will finish them someday, maybe in the future, it will suit me better and I will like those books, I don’t know.

What do you do when you don’t like a book? Do you try to finish it or you let it go?

I would love to hear from you, I love talking about books ๐Ÿ™‚ .

  • I don’t finish a book if I don’t like it ๐Ÿ™‚

But I understand you completely – I used to also buy bestsellers and some of them didn’t do a thing for me ๐Ÿ™
I don’t do this anymore – now I only read the books that are interesting to me ๐Ÿ™‚
