Bread with Caramelized Onion
I wanted to make a bread, but not plain, I wanted to try something else. I’ve searched the internet and I found this Bread with Caramelized Onion recipe, so it’s not mine, it’s on Youtube. I just added the leek and chives to it.
Ingredients:
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 1 leek, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons of olive oil
- salt
For the dough:
- 500 g flour
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 2 1/4 teaspoon of active dry yeast
- 2 tablespoons of chopped chives
- 320 ml lukewarm water
- caramelized onion
In a large pan, cook the onion and leek until it becomes soft, for 7 minutes approximately. Season with salt. Set aside.
Prepare the dough. Dissolve the yeast in salt and 80 ml of the warm water. Set aside for 10 minutes.
Mix the flour with the chives. Add the yeast mixture and stir to combine. Next, add the rest of the water, 240 ml.
Add the caramelized onion and knead the dough until it doesn’t stick to your hands anymore. Let it sit for 1 hour.
On a floured surface, roll the dough into a loaf and move it to a loaf pan. Let it sit for 30 minutes, sprinkle salt on top and some chives.
Place a pot of warm water in the oven to create steam. Preheat oven to 240*C and bake the bread for 15 minutes.
Remove the pot and reduce the temperature at 230*C and bake for another 15 minutes.
Enjoy the bread. 🙂

Looks really good! I love caramelized onions in my food. I’m not really good with dough but I may try it out anyway.

I’m a beginner in making doughs myself. It’s not hard. Try a simple dough, a simple bread or focaccia. I am sure it will work out. I made focaccia twice and it was really good. Good luck 🙂

I agree, leek cram soup is wonderful. I also use leeks in soups, bakes and patties. Love it! 🙂
